Thanks to the generosity of Shoppers Drug Mart customers and employees in Sudbury, North Bay, Hanmer, Timmins, Kapuskasing, Parry Sound and Gravenhurst, more than $28,920 has been raised for the Northern Cancer Research Foundation (NCRF) through this year’s Tree of Life fundraising campaign.

Since its inception, the campaign has raised more than $9 million, helping to improve the quality of life for Canadians. In northeastern Ontario, 100 per cent of the proceeds raised by Shoppers Drug Mart customers and employees at 11 stores will go directly to the NCRF.

“A large part of our funding stems from volunteer groups and their fundraising efforts in our community and surrounding area, enabling us to offer critical support for cancer equipment and patient care,” said NCRF executive director Denise Plouffe. “We thank Shoppers Drug Mart, their employees and you, their customers, for helping us improve many lives in northeastern Ontario.”

“The amazing results of this year’s campaign would not have been possible without the generosity and commitment of our customers and staff,”  said Terry Bristow, lead associate, Shoppers Drug Mart. “Shoppers Drug Mart is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of Canadians by promoting health and wellness through the services and consultation we offer and by giving back to community-based health initiatives. This year, we’ve selected the NCRF and are pleased to present to them the proceeds from our Tree of Life campaign.”

The Shoppers Drug Mart Tree of Life fundraising campaign is a four-week program held across Canada each autumn. Customers, staff and Pharmacist-owners at more than 1,090 Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix stores raise funds for a local health charity by purchasing a paper leaf, maple leaf or apple for the Tree of Life. Since 2002, the Tree of Life campaign has raised $9 million for Canadian health charities. Shoppers Drug Mart stores are owned by local pharmacists who live, work and give back to the communities they serve.
