In partnership with the Sudbury East Community Health Centre and volunteer parents, a gardening project was launched with the financial support of the Ministry of Education’s Speak Up Project Grants.

Taking advantage of sunny days, students and parents, armed with shovels and hammers, worked hard at building three wooden gardening boxes, installing a sprinkler system and planting vegetable seeds.

From there on, all grade 7 and 8 students had the weekly responsibility of checking up on the garden and making sure the vegetables were maintaining their health and growing. Once fully grown, the vegetables were picked and distributed to the Noëlville and Alban food banks.

This community involvement project allowed students to have fun while collaborating and demonstrating charity to people in their community.

“Mrs. Chartrand and the grade 7 and 8 students at École St-Antoine, from the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario, would like to thank everyone who supported this initiative as well as the Ministry of Education for their financial support in launching this positive academic and social engagement project,” said a press release.
