Two residents are unaccounted for following a fire that began Saturday morning and eventually engulfed a bungalow in the Town of Elliot Lake.

On March 7, at 5:14 a.m., the Elliot Lake Fire Department received a call regarding an active structure fire at 4 Hart Road.

They responded shortly thereafter, said Fire Chief John Thomas, at which point the fire had taken over so much of the building that crews were unable to gain entry.

Two residents remain unaccounted for.

The fire has been tamed considerably since that time, said Thomas, but when it will be considered extinguished remains unknown.

A representative of his office said it is too soon to say whether the fire caused any damage to the surrounding area.

The Ontario Fire Marshall's office is on the scene and assisting in the investigation.

More information will be released as it is made available.
