Vale, union agree to investigate smelter death together

“We are very pleased that Vale and USW Local 6500 will be working cooperatively to understand exactly what happened through a careful and thorough investigation.”

While the immediate area remains frozen by the Ministry of Labour, the investigation will begin as soon as access to the area to the area is permitted.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the Rochette family,” Strong said.

“We look forward to working together to honour Paul’s memory by putting measures in place to prevent such a tragedy from ever occurring again, not only at the smelter, but across all Vale operations.”
