Updated: City staff cleaning up graffiti in Bell Park

Park benches, garbage bins and signs tagged with graffiti

Update:

The city was notified of extensive graffiti in Bell Park Monday morning, said City of Greater Sudbury spokesperson Shannon Dowling.

Dowling said staff have spent all of Monday working to remove the graffiti.

“We're anticipating most of it should be removed late this afternoon into early evening,” she said. “If we have to continue tomorrow to remove it all, we will do just that.”

Original Story:

Park infrastructure throughout Bell Park was vandalized over the weekend, Sudbury.com has learned.

Most benches along the Bell Park boardwalk, along with garbage bins and information signs, have been defaced with graffiti.

Some graffiti included vulgar language, with the words “F**k Sudbury” tagged on an information sign near the boardwalk, and “F**k Liberals” on a city trailer.

“That's horrible,” said Ward 10 Coun. Fern Cormier, whose ward includes Bell Park.

Cormier said he became aware of the vandalism through Sudbury.com's call, and added he would immediately contact leisure services to ensure the vandalism is cleaned up.

Sudbury.com called Greater Sudbury Police Service to ask whether they had any leads on the people responsible for the vandalism, but they were not immediately available for a response.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
