Veteran trustee appointed chair of Rainbow board

Veteran Rainbow District School Board trustee Doreen Dewar was acclaimed as chair of the board at the trustees' Dec. 20 meeting. Trustee Dena Morrison was acclaimed vice-chair of the board.

Veteran Rainbow District School Board trustee Doreen Dewar was acclaimed as chair of the board at the trustees' Dec. 20 meeting.

Trustee Dena Morrison was acclaimed vice-chair of the board.

Dewar is the longest serving trustee on the Board with a total of 23 years, including nine years on the Sudbury Board of Education.

She has been vice-chair of the board for the past two years. Dewar has served multiple terms as chair, and been a member of every board committee.

She succeeds trustee Tyler Campbell in the role.

Dewar said she will remain focused on student success, not only academic excellence, but also encompassing the physical, social, emotional and mental well-being of students.

“I am proud of the accomplishments of our young people and in awe at the dedication of all staff,” she said.

“I am eager to contribute to Rainbow District School Board’s vision of being leaders in learning, inspiring success for all students by reaching minds and touching hearts.”

Morrison has been a trustee since 1998. From 2004 to 2008, she served as chair of the board. In 2003, she served as vice-chair of the board.
