Video: Missed Caroline Mulroney's stop in Sudbury? See what she had to say, here

PC leadership candidate said potential in the North is being squandered, promised money for NOHF

Caroline Mulroney wants to become leader of the Progressive Conservative Party, and Ontario's next Premier.

One of five candidates seeking the leadership of the Ontario Tories, Mulroney was in Sudbury speaking to a small group of supporters at the Best Western on Monday before continuing her tour in Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay and wrapping up events in the North during a stop in Timmins yesterday.

"With new leadership, I know that Northern Ontario can reach its full potential. The North's opportunities are being squandered by a government that does not care about you," Mulroney said. "We must stop them."

Mulroney's campaign continues to garner support. Supporting her leadership bid are PC candidates including Daryl Kramp of Hastings-Lennox and Addington, former federal Conservative cabinet minister Greg Rickford in Kenora-Rainy River and André Robichaud, candidate for Mushkegowuk-James Bay announced they are endorsing her bid for leadership.

As part of her northern campaign platform, Mulroney promised to double the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHF) from $100 million to $200 million dollars. She said $20 million worth of the fund have remained chronically unspent by the Liberal government, and re-absorbed into their budget. She also promised that any unspent dollars of the doubled funding would roll over into the NOHF's next fiscal year.

Tomorrow, Caroline Mulroney will be in Brantford at the Sherwood Restaurant. The city announced a state of emergency and has ordered evacuations due to floods today.
