The Northern Game Expo took place at the Caruso Club on Oct. 1, what looked to be a utopia for video game, toy and comic enthusiasts. With hundreds of people coming out to celebrate with game tournaments, a kids zone, and plenty of cosplay, the event featured a love of nostalgia, and a barbecue to boot.
For Ryan Meesen, it was a chance to put on his full Ghostbusters uniform, and to his delight, take photos with fans all day.
“There were six kids wanting photos when I was in line to get it,” he told Sudbury.com
While it took him many years to put together his look, it was totally worth it for him.
“I think it's a lot better now that I have 40-year-old money rather than eight-year-old money,” he said. “But, just to see the smile on their face, knowing that they're still gonna love the show like I did, it’s great.”
And that love of things from childhood certainly extends to Star Wars, with new and old fans alike enjoying droids R2-D2 and BB-8 as they made their moves around the event.
Sudbury.com has featured R2-D2’s partner, Robert Cast, in a story. Click here for a full description of the droid and his builder.
The event featured booths of artwork, vintage toys, games and gaming equipment, as well as an ongoing tournament, allowing fans to take on others at their favourite video games.
Northern Gaming Events, the creators of the Northern Game Expo, will merge this event with their other hit, Nostagiacon. Volume two of Nostalgiacon will be happening Sunday, April 23, 2024 at Cambrian College.
