Come to an indoor garage sale with a community twist on Saturday, June 25. You can shop for yard sale items from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the comfort of Parkside Centre on Durham Street while connecting with the community groups in your neighbourhood.

Neighbours Helping Neighbours is a capacity-building event where various greater Sudbury groups have joined with the IODE to spread awareness of their services, and showcase their talents and wares.

Stationed along the yard sale aisles will be groups such as Huntington Society, Réseau Access Network, Sudbury Rising Stars, Lifeline Sudbury, Wild at Heart Animal Refuge, Habitat for Humanity, Terry Ames Care Fund and L’Arche, to name but a few.

Learn more about who they are and what they do as you purchase butterflies for release at the upcoming Maison Vale Hospice event, or get your face painted to support the Girl Guides trip to Alberta. Bring spring or summer women’s clothes to donate to the Sudbury Women’s Centre’s My Sister’s Closet.

Help the CFUW and IODE by bringing travel size toiletries for bags they assemble to give to schools and seniors without family support in nursing homes. At 1:30 p.m. kids can come enjoy a story tent. An extra bonus includes book readings, signings and selling by local authors including Sudbury Poet Laureate Kim Fahner, Paulette Dahl and Charlie Smith.

Come shop for great summer reading material for children and adults of all ages. All proceeds from the used book sale will be shared with the Samaritan Centre and Sudbury Action Centre for Youth.

As an extra bonus, your suggested donation of a $2 admission will go directly one of five participating partner organization: Alzheimer’s Society, Dystonia Support Group, Maison Vale Hospice, N’Swakamok Native Friendship Centre or the Sudbury Women’s Centre.

Pick your favourite because the IODE be donating $500 directly to the organization that raises the largest amount at the door. Kids under 12 enjoy for free.

All proceeds from the yard sale go right back into the Greater Sudbury community to support IODE initiatives like Fresh Start Buckets for Genevra House, backpacks for Foyer Notre Dame House and bursaries to local secondary and post-secondary students.

The IODE City of Lakes Chapter is a women’s charitable organization with more than 40 dedicated members committed to enhancing the quality of education, services and citizenship in the City of Greater Sudbury.
