On Nov. 5, the Sudbury Volunteer Managers Network (SVMN), hosted by United Way Sudbury and Nipissing Districts and Volunteer Sudbury, celebrated International Volunteer Managers Day.

Network members met to celebrate the efforts of local volunteer managers and the impact they have within their organization and throughout the community.

“International Volunteer Managers Day was established in 1999 to recognize the essential role of the Volunteer Manager” said Linda Dupuis of United Way. “The hard work and dedication of these individuals is paramount to the success and well-being of our communities.”

On this day, the network also celebrated its fifth annual Volunteer Manager of the Year Award. This award was created in order to recognize an exceptional Volunteer Manager (paid or unpaid) within the City of Greater Sudbury. Individuals nominated demonstrate outstanding leadership, organization and communication skills, and have excelled in influencing the lives of their volunteers and the communities they serve.

Of the many exceptional nominations, two winners were selected. The network is thrilled to announce that Bette Choquette of All Nations Church and Angie Gaudette of Monarch Recovery Services were the winners of this year’s Volunteer Manager of the Year Award.

“It gives us great pleasure to recognize two outstanding Volunteer Managers for this year’s award,” said Barb Nott, of Volunteer Sudbury, in a news release. “Both Bette and Angie are such deserving candidates — they manage, lead and inspire everyday citizens to volunteer and make this community a better place to live.”

SVMN involves local Volunteer Managers who meet monthly to build their skills through training and peer mentorship. Volunteer managers interested in joining the network may contact Linda Dupuis, Community Initiatives Manager of United Way at 705-560-3330 ext. 222 or [email protected] for more information.
