The City of Greater Sudbury advises that an outdoor watering ban is in effect for the communities of Hanmer, Val Caron, Val Thérèse, Azilda and Chelmsford. The ban will be in effect until further notice.
The extremely high demand for water by residents of the Valley East water distribution system during the recent hot and dry weather conditions has prompted the city to declare an outdoor watering ban. Residents are being asked eliminate all at-home outdoor water use including lawn and garden watering and washing vehicles.
The city by-law enforcement officers will be in Hanmer, Val Caron, Val Thérèse, Azilda and Chelmsford to ensure that residents are respecting the outdoor watering ban. A violation of the City of Greater Sudbury?s outdoor watering ban could lead to charges and a fine of up to $5,000.
Residents of Hanmer, Val Caron, Val Thérèse, Azilda and Chelmsford are urged to conserve water by reducing all non-essential uses. Residents are asked to limit consumption whenever possible.
?The Valley East water supply is critically low. A reduction in the usage of water is necessary," said Alan Stephen, General Manager of Infrastructure and Emergency Services in a news release. "If residents don't start following this restriction, it could lead to trouble for our firefighters,? said Stephen.
The city is monitoring reservoirs throughout Greater Sudbury and could possibly expand the ban to other water systems if the hot and dry conditions continue and residents do not reduce their water consumption levels.
