Waubetek Business Development Corporation will play host to an Aboriginal aquaculture summit this March.

The Walleye Aquaculture Workshop will take place March 23 and 24 at the Days Inn in Sudbury. The event is open to Aboriginal communities interested in walleye aquaculture.

Topics of discussion will include walleye culture methodology; egg production, fingerlings and food fish; recent trends in walleye culture; and hatchery practices and technology. There will also be presentations by U.S. and Ontario walleye culture experts, who will also engage participants during question-and-answer sessions.

The event is part of the Aboriginal Aquaculture in Canada Initiative (AACI), which supports Aboriginal economic development in Canada’s aquaculture sector. Developed in partnership with Aboriginal organizations, the AACI provides interested Aboriginal communities and entrepreneurs with support in the form of technical business expertise to develop viable aquaculture business development plans and to help bring those plans to fruition.
