After yesterday’s devastating fire at the Killarney Mountain Lodge Resort, Sudbury.com thought we’d pay tribute to the beauty that is the Killarney area — and what better way to do it than with art!
So, we’re sharing this video of Killarney artist Pierre AJ Sabourin doing what he does best — memorializing in paint the beauty that is the Killarney region. Fittingly, the area Sabourin is painting in the video is Covered Portage Cove, from which the building that burned at Killarney Mountain Resort got its name.
When we asked him about it, Sabourin mentioned that the painting in the video makes its first public appearance this weekend, a rather coincidental confluence of events.
“I am very pleased to announce my painting Covered Portage will make its first public appearance at the Killarney Mountain Lodge this weekend,” Sabourin told Sudbury.com. “The Mountain Lodge has incredible Canadian art heritage and is a great honour for me to showcase my work.”
The video’s Irish-tinged soundtrack, of course, comes from Killarney’s own musical bard, Andy Lowe, while videography comes by way of “Killarney Dan” Hebert.
Despite yesterday’s fire, Killarney Mountain Lodge Resort remains open, serving customers and taking reservations.
