The Manitoulin Expositor has identified the man who died in a workplace accident in Chelmsford last month as Carl Peltier of Wikwemikong.

Peltier, who worked for the Wikwemikong company Prosteel North, was killed Aug. 21 after the trusses collapsed at a private, residential worksite.

His death is under investigation by the Ministry of Labour.

Peltier, known by the nickname “Mandy,” would have turned 54 Aug. 30. His funeral was held at the Holy Cross Mission Church in Wikwemikong Aug. 25.

His obituary said he was the loving partner of Faye Corbiere, cherished father of Keasha (Nathan), Jackilene, Ethan, Corey and Tanya and proud grandfather of Cameron and Serenity Lynn, Jlyn, Conan, Shayla, Lillie, Aiden and Kyla.

“He'll be remembered as a hard worker and someone who always liked to laugh and was always there to lend a helping hand,” the obituary said.

“He enjoyed walks in the bush, playing pool, horseshoes, watching hockey and working. He spent 10 years working for the Wikwemikong Nursing Home, two years as a home care provider for Amikook and his handiwork can be seen all around the community of Wikwemikong as he also worked for Wikwemikong Housing for 25 years. He'll be dearly missed by everyone who got to know him.”

Peltier's death marks the third fatal workplace accident in Greater Sudbury so far in 2017.
