The Blueberry Bulldogs lost a tough battle with the Saginaw Spirit, with the local team falling 4-2 against the Western Conference-leading team.
For those confused, the Blueberry Bulldogs are actually the Sudbury Wolves.
The local OHL team rebranded themselves for Friday’s game in for Shorsey Night, in honour of the Letterkenny spinoff television series Shoresy, which is filmed in Greater Sudbury.
Special jerseys were worn during the game emblazoned with their one-off team name, which will be available for auction to benefit the NEO Kids Foundation.
The jerseys will be available to purchase through an in-house silent auction or online here.
Friday’s game itself saw Bulldogs Ethan Larmand and David Goyette score goals, with the local assists made by Landon McCallum, Matthew Mania, Jacob Holmes and Quentin Musty.
The puck didn’t hit the net until the second period, when the two Sudbury goals landed. The Spirits’ four goals were all in the fourth period.
“We did a lot of good things, we created a lot of good scoring chances, probably could have scored more, but at the end of the day I’ll take that effort,” Sudbury head coach Derek MacKenzie said in a post-game interview. “For the most part I think we did enough good things to win it.”
Assistant captain Ethan Larmand said falling so hard in the third period was a tough way to lose.
“They’re a strong team as well, and their goalie played well, so we’ve got to take those first two periods and build off those from now and forget that third period.”
The Wolves’ next game is tonight (Dec. 10) against the Barrie Colts at the Sadlon Arena, followed by another game against the same team in the same location on Dec. 13.
They return to Sudbury for a Dec. 16 game against the Mississauga Steelheads.
