Wordstock foreshadows an impressive workshop program

Wordstock Sudbury Literary Festival has revealed its lineup of guests for the 2015 festival edition. “We have an incredible collection of workshops led by talented and generous writers,” said festival chair Heather Campbell.

Wordstock Sudbury Literary Festival has revealed its lineup of guests for the 2015 festival edition.

“We have an incredible collection of workshops led by talented and generous writers,” said festival chair Heather Campbell. “These sessions will give participants the edge when it comes to learning the ropes of the publishing world, remaining competitive in the business of writing and generally developing their craft.”

The festival kicks off Friday, June 19 at Sudbury Secondary School with award-winning humour writers Terry Fallis and Sudbury-born Sandra Shamas in conversation. A series of workshops and panel discussions are scheduled throughout the day on Saturday, June 20. In the evening, there is a dinner and show with Corin Raymond at Motley Kitchen.

Workshops include:

-Telling Your Story with Marty Gervais , founder of Black Moss Press, and an award-winning journalist, photographer, poet, playwright, historian, editor and teacher.

-People and Events that Inspire Fiction with Joseph Kertes, award-winning author of Gratitude and The Afterlife of Stars and founder of Humber College’s creative writing and comedy programs.

-Genre Fiction with M H Callway (Madeleine Harris-Callway), award-winning short story writer and author of Windigo Fire and founder of Mesdames of Mayhem: a collective of leading Canadian women crime writers and editors.

-Creative Book Marketing with Terry Fallis and Mark Leslie Lefevbre, author of Spooky Sudbury and director of self-publishing and author relations at Kobo.

-Writing for Teens with Evan Munday, author and illustrator of the Silver Birch award finalists The Dead Kid Detective Agency and Dial M for Morna.

-Children’s literature reading with Danielle Daniel, author and illustrator/artist, Sometimes I Feel Like a Fox.

Local published writers Chris Nash, Darlene Naponse, Laura E. Young, Scott Overton, Mick Lowe, Sean Costello and Klaus Jakelski will join the conversation in a series of engaging panel discussions. Admission to panel discussions is free.

Tickets are $10 per workshop or $35 for the full day of programming.

Poets, journalists, fiction writers, publishers and playwrights will gather in Sudbury for two days to celebrate their love of the written word, to share skills and knowledge, and to develop their craft. The festival, a project of the Sudbury Arts Council, seeks to attract Northern Ontario residents of all ages, whether writers or readers. Young aspiring writers are encouraged to participate by entering a Youth Writing Contest that boasts cash prizes and an opportunity to be published.
