WSN unveil the winners of their 2018 student artwork contest

Visual art students from Sudbury Sec. have their work displayed at the 21st annual Mining Health and Safety Conference

The winners of a student artwork contest presented by Workplace Safety North (WSN) were unveiled April 10, to the 150 delegates present for the 21st annual Mining Health and Safety Conference.

In the fall of 2018, Community Engagement Specialist at WSN Angele Poitras, hosted a health and safety session for a group of grade 11 visual art students from Sudbury Secondary High School. Following the presentation, students were asked to complete a visual representation of what that discussion meant to them.

“Not only was the quality of the artwork awesome, but these students have also done a great job in showing us the diverse ways we all think about safety and are affected by it,” said Poitra in a press release. “It really emphasizes the importance of talking, sharing, and having that safety conversation – no matter what your age or profession.”

In response to the submissions they received, WSN President and CEO Paul Andre, said that WSN will be purchasing all of the work to showcase in exhibits, the company's website, as well as their social media accounts.

"We want to highlight their talent and voices, and raise awarness of how important it is to have the safety conversation," said Andre in a press release.

  • 1st place: Waiting by Tianna Earl
