The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s Employment and Immigrant Services has partnered with several organizations and businesses across Sudbury to host the very first annual “Job Crawl” on Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

“We know of design crawls and even pub crawls, but we’ve never heard of a job crawl in Sudbury,” said general manager Karen Makela.

“The current trend in the employment application process involves directing job seekers to an online application system, or service; what’s missing, is the human connection in the whole process. Many job seekers have not experienced the opportunity to walk into a business, meet the employer and learn about the company first hand."

Job seekers are encouraged to visit and tour several local businesses. This initiative will showcases employers by providing a forum for community members to get an inside look into their Sudbury based business, and or, organization.

"It's rare to have the opportunity to casually walk and talk with fellow job seekers, all with one common goal. We have learned that the foundational elements in successfully transitioning from being a job seeker to an employee, or entrepreneur, are immersed in communications and in creating human connections," said Makela.

"We are attempting to add these important values, back into the job search process."

Employers will be opening their doors and discussing their history, mission, vision, operations and work environment. Participants will have a job crawl passport, which is stamped by each participating business.

With a fully stamped passport, participants will be entered into a draw to win a grand prize. Passports will be available on the website and/or can be picked up at the YMCA Employment and Immigrant Services Resource Centre.

Registration and more details can be found at www.ymcajobcrawl.com.
