The event was held to celebrate the $200,000 in renovations and $300,000 in new equipment recently purchased by YMCA Sudbury.
Kim Kanmacher, CEO of YMCA Sudbury, said the organization paid for the equipment and renovations through a $73,000 grant from FedNor, as well as through a bank loan.
“The newly redesigned Health and Fitness Centre is critical to building the foundation of a healthier and more vibrant community,” she said, in a press release.
Neil Kennedy, who said he's been a YMCA Sudbury member for four years, said he's been impressed with the changes at the gym.
“It's beautiful,” he said.
“The equipment is all up to date. It's clean. There's always an instructor around to answer any questions you have, too. For me, for the cost of going to a gym, this is really worth it. You get good value for your money.”
YMCA Sudbury also celebrated the launch of its 2014-2018 strategic plan at the grand reopening.
The strategic plan has an overarching goal of building a “strong, healthy, vibrant community” through strengthening its impact, extending its reach, increasing its capacity and building its brand.
“We have certainly come up with a very strong tactical plan of outcomes we feel is critical and achievable for our YMCA,” Kanmacher said.
In celebration of the gym revamping, YMCA Sudbury is hosting a Community Open House from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. March 22. As well, for the next two weeks, people are able to use the facility for free through the “Try the Y” program.
