Registration is now open for fall fitness and recreational programs offered through the City of Greater Sudbury.

Program information can be found online at www.greatersudbury.ca/leisure or by visiting a Greater Sudbury Public Library to reserve computer time free of charge. Residents can register for programs online, at Citizen Service Centres or by dialing 3-1-1.

“The city knows that it is important for residents to receive the information they need to stay active and engaged at every stage of their life and in every season,” said a news release from the city.

“As such, we have updated the way we share information about city leisure programs to provide the most accurate and timely information available, in a variety of ways. The majority of residents with children up to age 14, which represents the largest group registering for municipal programs, prefer to find their information online.”

Fitness and recreation pages at www.greatersudbury.ca/leisure have been redesigned and include a new feature to search for activities by age.

Printed fliers have been delivered to more than 22,000 households this week to provide information about registering for programs.

Older adults in the community represent the second largest group registering for municipal leisure programs.

“To serve this market, an Active Living Guide for Older Adults will be printed and distributed through clubs, associations, residences and Citizen Service Centres in September,” said the news release.

The City of Greater Sudbury also offers a variety of activities at no charge:

Starting the week of Sept. 5, residents are welcome to enjoy one free swim each week at five municipal pools. Search for Swimming and Pools on the City of Greater Sudbury website for more information.

Supervised youth drop-in centres begin regular programming on Sept. 7. Outdoor parks, playgrounds, tennis courts and splash pads remain open for the remainder of the summer.
