Yrubdus: This petition from the anti-Kingsway event centre lobby is pretty funny

Citizens Mobilized Over Nomenclatural Fairness & Urban Centred Knowledge? Yeah, nice acronym

A group of those still pushing to save a downtown arena in Greater Sudbury have created a tongue-in-cheek Change.org petition to push their message.

Calling themselves the "Citizens Mobilized Over Nomenclatural Fairness & Urban Centred Knowledge" (write out the first letters for yourself and get a chuckle at the acronym they've created), the group's petition seeks supports to change the name of the city from Sudbury to Yrubdus "because nothing represents our city better than doing everything backwards."

"If you give it some thought, and try it out a few times yourself out loud, you too will find that Yrubdus rolls off the tongue a lot easier," the group explains in the petition letter. "Furthermore, it better represents our collective mentality across this great city, and properly reflects the 'but we're different' values that will propel us into a future anchored solidly in our past."

The petition, which is, as of this writing, nearly halfway to its goal of 500 signatures, will be sent to city council once that goal is met.

While the petition doesn't specifically mention its in support of a downtown arena, many of those who signed the petition clearly believe that to be the intention of the campaign.

Curious? Want to sign? You can find the petition here.
