Peacefully passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the age of 77 years. The sunshine of our lives has moved on after developing pulmonary fibrosis.

Son of the late William John Eastman and of the late Mary Rose (Drabit) Eastman. Beloved husband and soul mate of 50 years to Rachel (Miles) Eastman. Loving and devoted father to sons Alex (wife Amber) and Tim (wife Clare). Cherished grandfather of Kallum, Declan, Evan, Owen and Hazel, he will be missed beyond measure. Dear brother of John (Freida). Predeceased by his sister Annette (late Mike) and by his brothers Mervyn (Lillian) and Walter (Pat) (late Shirley). He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family, Gaylene, Bradley, Craig, Anyaa, Tania, Eli and Jessica.

Throughout his youth he was a natural born athlete be it gymnastics, diving, or hockey. Byron excelled in many pursuits and gave them his all. Photography, Kung Fu (black belt), and ballroom dancing in which he passed a number of exams in various levels.

Following the completion of his Ph.D from the London School of Economics (England), Laurentian University brought him to Sudbury to teach Economics. Author of several peer-reviewed textbooks and articles, Byron spent an amazing 49 years as a professor doing what he loved best - teaching his students.

Perhaps one of the most enduring legacies was his trademark wit which never failed to bring laughter and joy to all those around him.

Special thank you to Dr. Candace Walton and her palliative care team from Maison McCulloch Hospice along with the caring nurses and PSW’s from Bayshore who never let us down and did everything to meet Byron’s wishes for him to have a peaceful passing at home.

In keeping with Byron’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at Lockerby Legion, RCL Branch 564 on Sunday, February 18th from 2 - 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made by cheque or online to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca
