Celebration of Life: LAHTI, Irma

July 9, 2022

LAHTI, Irma

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our treasured wife, mother, mummu, sister and aunt Irma Marjatta Lahti (née Mäkynen) on June 14, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Irma was born in Jurva, Finland on April 5th, 1947, to Bertta and Eino Mäkynen, both predeceased.
Her memory will be cherished by her devoted husband Eero, beloved children Sari and Henry, her greatest joys - her grandchildren Charlie and Jaeden, her loving sister Merja (Timo) and her nieces Tanya (Steve) and Samantha (Andre) in Sudbury. She will also be deeply missed by her siblings in Finland; Paivi (Jari), Marita (Kari), Tapani (Marja-Liisa), Heli (Martti, predeceased), Jari (predeceased) and their families.

Over the years, Irma bravely faced her illness with grace, dignity, humour, and courage. She greatly valued the kindness and care she received from the nurses and the staff at the Cancer Centre, was thankful for Dr. Gill's wisdom and felt safe under his care.

Irma was a kind, generous and giving soul who beautified the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her family was her world. She loved them fiercely and valued them above all else. She was a humble and selfless friend, cheerfully gave to others and had a prayerful heart for everyone. She was slow to anger and quick to forgive, had a wonderful sense of humour and loved her life.

Irma could see the beauty in everything - she loved being in nature and admiring flowers, walking in Kivi Park, and was a fierce protector of her beloved backyard robins.

Her faith formed the foundation upon which she built her beautiful life, and her church community was very important to her. She will be always remembered for her giving and charitable nature.

Irma’s legacy will live on in the lives of everyone she touched, because everyone who knew her is better as a result. Irma created a wonderful life and lived it well and was the true embodiment of love as a verb.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the Siion (Finnish Pentecostal) Church, 1843 Paris St., from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Donations in her honour can be made to the Northeast Cancer Centre at Health Sciences North and the Siion Church.

We remember our beautiful Irma with a smile and carry her love with us until we meet again. "Hyvää yötä, Jeesus myötä."
