81-year-old woman dead after being hit by car in parking lot east of Toronto

OSHAWA, Ont. — Police east of Toronto say they're investigating the death of an 81-year-old woman after she was hit by a car in a grocery store parking lot.

The Durham Regional Police Service say the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Oshawa, Ont.

They say a Ford SUV hit the woman as she was crossing a traffic lane towards parked cars.

Investigators say she was treated at the scene by first responders before eventually being pronounced dead.

They say the driver remained at the scene.

Police closed the area for several hours as they investigated and are asking any witnesses to come forward.
