MONTREAL — Quebec's Court of Appeal has rejected the case of a man on the lam for six weeks who was convicted in an aerial attack on Hydro-Quebec power lines.
The province's highest court on Monday agreed with a request by prosecutors to dismiss Normand Dube's appeals.
Dube, described as the "pilot to the stars" in Quebec media after transporting celebrities in his plane, failed to report to a detention centre after the appeals court revoked his bail.
He has been running from police for six weeks and is listed on the province's most wanted list.
Dube had been appealing two convictions — an attack of Hydro-Quebec lines in 2014 for which he was sentenced in 2018 to seven years in prison. The attack cost the public utility $28.6 million and plunged 180,000 people into darkness.
He was also found guilty of arson and of making threats against civil servants in a separate case.
The high court ruled Monday it has the discretion to dismiss an appeal when a party does not respect its commitments and flouts the court's authority. Dube has been missing since before Christmas and police have said they believe he's hiding out in northern Quebec.
