Belleville, Ont., police officer charged with assault: OPP

Provincial police say a constable with the Belleville Police Service has been charged with assault.

Ontario Provincial Police say they were asked by Belleville's police chief to conduct an investigation into allegations related to an in-custody incident involving a 36-year old man on Sept. 17. 

The OPP say they've now completed their investigation.

They say a 33-year-old constable with the Belleville police force is charged with assault. 

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Belleville next month.
