Man, 26, arrested after OPP officer stabbed near Belleville, Ont.

Police say a man sought in connection with the overnight stabbing of an officer near Belleville, Ont., has been arrested.

Ontario Provincial Police say the suspect, a 26-year-old man, was wanted on an attempted murder charge in relation to the incident in Foxboro.

Earlier Sunday, OPP spokesman Bill Dickson said an officer tried to stop a vehicle shortly before 1 a.m., but the vehicle instead collided with the officer's cruiser.

He said both people got out of their vehicles and the officer was stabbed.

The officer is now in hospital being treated for his injuries.

A shelter-in-place order had been issued for Foxboro while the suspect remained at large, but has since been lifted.
