Police watchdog investigating after Timmins teen dies in hospital

TIMMINS, Ont. — Ontario's police watchdog is investigating the death of a 16-year-old boy in Timmins, Ont.

The Special Investigations Unit says officers were called on reports of a youth in medical distress in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The SIU says the teen appeared to be in an agitated state so the officers tried to restrain him for assessment.

The agency says the teen's vital signs stopped on the way to hospital, so he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

It says the teen died Monday morning. An autopsy is scheduled Wednesday.
