Officers of the Traffic Management Unit conducted enforcement over the weekend in response to an increase in collisions over the winter months.

Since Jan 1, 818 collisions were reported to the Greater Sudbury Police Service.  Officers over the weekend charged 63 people with driving in excess of the speed limit.  Two people were charged with disobeying official signs, 12 document related charges were laid and three people were charged with failing to wear their seatbelt.  One driver was notified that he was under suspension and his drivers licence was seized and returned to the Ministry.

The majority of collisions occur as a direct result of driving too fast for the conditions of the road and the Greater Sudbury Police Services Traffic Management Unit are urging the public to slow down and remind them that speed limits are posted maximums under ideal conditions.
