Accident in Hanmer leaves driver dead

A single-vehicle accident on Notre Dame Street in Hanmer, around 8 p.m. on Dec. 30, has left the driver of the vehicle dead.

Dustin Renaud, 27, was travelling north on Notre Dame Street when he lost control of his truck. He crossed the centre line and hit the snowbank, rolled, and struck a hydro pole.

After Sudbury Fire services extricated Renaud from the vehicle, he was transported to St. Joseph's Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

Residences along the road lost power due to the accident, and the street was closed for several hours during the investigation.

The accident is still under investigation, and toxicology tests will be conducted to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in incident.

A mechanical fitness of the vehicle will be conducted to see if there are mechanical issues that may have contributed to the accident.
