Accident near Verner claims life

A Gloucester woman is dead after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17, near Verner, on Dec. 27 around 4 p.m. The woman, 55, was driving a west-bound vehicle when she crossed the centre line and struck an east-bound pickup truck.

A Gloucester woman is dead after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17, near Verner, on Dec. 27 around 4 p.m.

The woman, 55, was driving a west-bound vehicle when she crossed the centre line and struck an east-bound pickup truck. Police believed that alcohol was not a factor. The two passengers in the car as well as the three occupants of the truck were all taken to hospital with non-threatening injuries, said police.

At the time of the accident the weather was clear and the roads were wet.

The woman's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The highway was closed for about six hours while the OPP investigated the accident.
