Alleged thief assaults Sears employee

A 25-year-old woman has been charged with assault and theft after she knocked a Sears employee to the ground and assaulted her. Greater Sudbury Police were called to the New Sudbury Shopping Centre at around 4:30 p.m. Aug.

A 25-year-old woman has been charged with assault and theft after she knocked a Sears employee to the ground and assaulted her.

Greater Sudbury Police were called to the New Sudbury Shopping Centre at around 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25 to question a woman who had been detained by Sears “loss prevention officers.”

The woman had allegedly stolen cosmetics from Sears. She then knocked a loss prevention officer who tried to arrest her to the ground and started hitting her. The loss prevention officer suffered minor scrapes and bruises.

Greater Sudbury Police found that the woman was also breaching her probation. She attended a bail hearing Aug. 26.

The cosmetics stolen from Sears were recovered and returned to the business.
