UPDATE: Following the arrest of the man involved in two bank robberies yesterday, the Greater Sudbury Police Service issued a press release thanking the public for their assistance.

“During yesterday’s investigation into the two bank robberies and the subsequent tracking of the suspect, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service were aided by good samaritans of the Sudbury area.

“As the culprit was speeding through Valley East, he entered various construction zones. Workers in these areas assisted police in attempting to obstruct the flight of the accused and assisting one officer whose cruiser became stuck in mud.  These actions were taken without solicitation and the identities of these individuals are not known.

“Collectively this organization would like to thank those that assisted.  Your efforts certainly contributed to the suspect’s apprehension. Job well done.”

A motorcyclist suspected of robbing two area banks was arrested on Martin Road in Val Caron yesterday afternoon following a pursuit, stated a Greater Sudbury Police Service news release.

Officers responded to two bank robberies on Thursday afternoon, which took place at area Caisse Populaires branches.

The first robbery took place at 43 Notre Dame St. East in Azilda at approximately 2:56 p.m. and the second at 3077 Highway 69 North in Val Caron at about 3:37 p.m.

While police were searching the Azilda robbery area, the second robbery occurred.

While officers were responding to the Val Caron bank robbery, a male matching the suspect's  description was observed by police and was arrested.
