Body of man, 49, found in alleyway on Frood Road

A 49-year-old man was found deceased in an alleyway on Frood Road on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a police investigation into a suspected sudden death.

Greater Sudbury police were dispatched to the area shortly before 3 p.m. on Jan. 17, after community members came across someone they believed to be deceased in an alleyway.

A local news outlet first reported on the incident on Wednesday evening.

Police issued their first public message regarding the incident through Facebook at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. A media release was sent by email several minutes later.

Sudbury.com emailed and left a phone message with police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn seeking additional information prior to them issuing their Facebook post, but she did not respond.

The man was pronounced deceased by Greater Sudbury paramedics.

“No further information related to the individual’s identity will be released at this time as officers are in the process of notifying the individual’s next of kin,” police noted in their media release.

Detectives from the Major Crime Section of Greater Sudbury Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Division are working in collaboration with the Coroner’s Office. 

A post-mortem has been scheduled for Jan. 22 through the Coroner’s Office to help determine the cause of death.
