Felicity Altiman, 23, was released from custody Thursday after spending just under two months in jail for hitting a woman over the head with a pool cue during a drunken brawl Dec. 7.

Altiman pleaded guilty to common assault, but not guilty to assault with a weapon.

Court heard one of AltimanÂ?s friends accused another woman of owing Altiman $60 while all three of them were playing pool at a bar.

An argument ensued. AltimanÂ?s friend punched Karen Bigger in the face, while Altiman hit Bigger in the face with the pool cue. Bigger responded by
taking a steak knife and stabbing Altiman once in the forehead above her right eye and again on her arm.

Bigger has been charged with aggravated assault in relation to this same incident. She has yet to go on trial.

Defence counsel Charles Conroy said Altiman, a mother of two young children, is addicted to heroin and cocaine, and her addiction is at the root cause of all of her recent troubles with the law.

Altiman has volunteered to undergo a six-month treatment program with the hope of beating her terrible addiction, he said.

Justice Randall Lalande agreed to the joint submission that Altiman be released after serving almost two months in jail. He told her that until she addresses her addiction problems, sheÂ?s likely going to continue to get into trouble.
