Complaints about paving company leads to investigation

Manitoulin OPP is currently investigating fraud complaints from residents that had work done by a paving company, using the name WBP Inc. based out of London, Ontario.

The company was on the island in late June and early July approaching many homes and businesses to have paving done.

An investigation has revealed the prices quoted for completed work varied extensively from client to client.

Police say there is no answer on the phone number left behind and a check of receipts left no personal information as to names of the workers involved.

Paving that has now been completed is being checked to see the quality of work involved. Anyone that has had contact or is concerned is asked to call the OPP. It is believed that the company has left the island and is heading to the Wawa or Thunder Bay area.

Constable Allan Boyd Community Services Officer for the Manitoulin O.P.P. advises that the public need to be aware of companies that knock on your door offering a service. It is up to the buyer to be on the alert.

People should be checking references and making sure the contact information is secure. You should be concerned if the company only asks for cash and has no other payment methods.

Police are asking the public to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 with any complaints or concerns with this incident.
