Another court appearance and another delay for a convicted pedophile from Sault Ste. Marie.

Robert Bumbacco, 54, completed a 60-day psychiatric assessment in Toronto in late May. He made another court appearance Wednesday, but once again this matter was not spoken to as it was revealed the Toronto doctor responsible for his assessment hasn?t sent his final report.

Bumbacco was remanded in custody until Sept. 25, when it is hoped the report in question will be completed, said assistant Crown attorney Patricia Moore.

Bumbacco was convicted of sexually assaulting a Sudbury teenager in March.

A judge approved a Crown request in late March to have Bumbacco undergo a 60-day assessment by forensic psychologist Philip Klassen at the renowned Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto. The assessment began March 22.

Sudbury?s Crown attorney?s office is considering applying to have Bumbacco designated as a dangerous offender or long-term offender.

Dangerous offender status, if granted by a judge, could keep Bumbacco in jail indefinitely. Long-term offender status gives police special powers to closely monitor offenders once they are released from prison.

Bumbacco pleaded guilty to one count of touching a 14-year-old girl for a sexual purpose and inviting the same girl to touch him for a sexual purpose. He also pleaded guilty to breaching a court order to not leave Sault Ste. Marie or be in the presence of any girl under 18 without supervision.

The incidents took place between Dec. 1, 2000 and Aug. 6, 2001. He was arrested Aug. 10, 2001, and has been in custody since. Bumbacco faces several other sex-related charges for an incident which allegedly took place last summer.
