The Crown has completed its case against a local doctor who stands accused of sexually assaulting several patients during internal examinations.
Dr. Richard Nanka-Bruce, 61, has pleaded not guilty to six counts of sexual assault and three counts of indecent assault. Most of the complainants
allege the assaults took place in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The defence is expected to begin its case this morning. Defence lawyer David Humphrey hasn?t indicated during court proceedings on whether or not he intends to call Nanka-Bruce as a witness.
The last Crown witness testified Tuesday she left Nanka-Bruce?s office in tears following an internal examination in 1995. The woman, who is now 34, said she was pregnant with her third of five children when she visited Nanka-Bruce for the first time. During her first visit, she was on an examination table wearing only a gown when Nanka-Bruce asked her questions she felt were inappropriate coming from a family doctor, she said.
Nanka-Bruce asked her if she had any dancing background and if ?she entertained? people at her home, she said.
During her next visit, she said the internal examination lasted longer than she thought appropriate. The 10-minute exam made her feel very uncomfortable, she said.
?It was taking forever,? she said.
