A Sudbury man is facing several charges, including impaired driving and mischief, for allegedly driving through a gate on private property and becoming stuck in a ditch.

The incident occurred on Feb. 10 just after 7:30 p.m. on Lakes End Road in Eden Township, south of Long Lake. Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a mischief complaint at a property on Lakes End Road, which is about 30 km south of downtown.

“A vehicle had damaged a closed gate, while driving through the gate on private property and became stuck in the ditch,” OPP said.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Sudbury OPP detachment, police said, adding they soon learned the driver was suspended. A small amount of drugs, suspected to be fentanyl, was seized from the vehicle, OPP said.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old Sudbury man is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a schedule I substance
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Mischief under $ 5,000

He was released with an Ontario Court of Justice court date on March 13 in Sudbury.

The driver was issued another 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days, police said.

“The OPP would like to remind the public that if you see a possible impaired driver on our roadways, waterways, or trails, please ‘Make the Call’, and dial 9-1-1 as impaired driving never ends well, please plan a way to get home safely.”
