On Sunday, around 9:30 am, an off-duty officer was at the Val Est Mall in Val Caron doing some shopping when he observed a Ford Ranger pickup truck driving in a dangerous manner in the mall parking lot with other motorists and pedestrians in the lot.

The accused was observed driving at a high rate of speed, spinning his tires between parked vehicles and pedestrians, spinning his vehicle in a circle without maintaining control and narrowly missing a light standard.

The officer attempted to block the vehicles passage, however, the accused slowed and stopped next to the officer’s vehicle at which time the officer was able to identify the driver.  As the officer attempted to exit his vehicle, the accused accelerated, spinning his tires and sped off.  The accused was then observed driving northbound on Municipal road 80 at a high rate of speed, constantly changing lanes to maneuver around other vehicles.  At one point the accused was observed driving so closely behind a vehicle in the centre lane, the driver in front of the accused was forced to speed up and pass another motor vehicle in the curb lane.

Eric Marcel Miron, 25 of Hanmer, has been charged with one count of dangerous driving and one count of stunt driving.  He was given a seven-day licence suspension and his truck was impounded for seven days. Miron is scheduled to appear in court on April 30.

Officers of the Greater Sudbury Police Service will continue to be diligent in identifying dangerous and aggressive drivers in Sudbury in an attempt to make the roads safer.
