Officers of the Traffic Management Unit once again conducted enforcement in the Valley East area of the City over the weekend. As a result, 72 people were charged with speeding over the weekend. One third of those charges were laid in a construction zone in McCrae Heights on March 28.

One person was charged with Stunt Driving after being clocked at 116 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone, as well as speeding.

Michelle Colquhoun, 20, of Val Caron, subsequently lost her drivers licence and vehicle for seven days.  Workers and equipment were present at the time of the incident.

Another driver was stopped for speeding in the construction zone.  The driver, James Maiangowi, 44, was charged with three counts of driving under suspension.

The Traffic Management Unit wants to remind the public if you are caught speeding in a construction zone with workers present, the fine is doubled.  This regulation is for the protection of workers in construction zone and police will take a zero tolerance in relation to this offence.
