Fatal vehicle accident on Hwy 17 southeast bypass

Officers from the Sudbury detachment of the OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on the Highway 17 southeast bypass in Greater Sudbury on July 17 at 10:15 pm, said a news release. Two OPP collision reconstructionists attended the scene.

watch video clipTwo OPP collision reconstructionists attended the scene. The investigation revealed that the male driver was travelling southbound on Highway 17, at a confirmed speed of 201 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a rock cut.

The driver, 29-year-old Christopher Kenyon, was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem is scheduled later today in Barrie, ON.

The investigation is continuing. Another vehicle may have been in the area and witnessed the collision. The police are seeking the public's assistance.
