A man who roughed up a former partner?s boyfriend for the second time in three years will spend another 30 days in jail on top of almost six months he?s already spent behind bars.

Raymond Newbury, 59, pleaded guilty Monday to break, enter, uttering death threats, criminal harassment and assault. Court heard Newbury became involved in a relationship with a woman in the fall of 2002 and remained with her until they split in the fall of last year.

Even though Newbury became involved with another woman, he continually called his former girlfriend, and she saw him driving around her home on numerous occasions.

He was eventually warned by police to leave the woman alone and cease all communication with her, but he kept bothering her to the point she became afraid of Newbury, said assistant Crown attorney Julie Lefebvre.

Newbury eventually threatened the former girlfriend?s new boyfriend with physical violence. Two days before Christmas, he broke into the woman?s home and confronted her new boyfriend.

He entered the home wearing a balaclava and the owner cried out warning Newbury to leave, but he didn?t, said Lefebvre. He eventually attacked the man and punched him and pinned him to the ground forcing bruised ribs and many cuts. Newbury left on foot and was arrested near his home and has been in custody since Dec. 23, 2004.

Defence counsel Terry Waltenbury said his client knows what he did was wrong and has not been in contact with the woman or her boyfriend and will not bother her again.

Before sentence was imposed, Newbury told the court, ?What I did I know was very wrong and it won?t ever happen again.?

Justice Patricia Hennessy agreed 30 more days in jail was called for and placed Newbury on probation for the maximum three years and ordered him to complete a partner assault program.
