Denise Plouffe, the former executive director of the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, has pleaded guilty to charges of fraud exceeding $5,000.

Two additional charges, for forging and tendering forged documents, were dropped, according to media reports.

Plouffe was removed from her position by the Northern Cancer Research Foundation (NCRF) on April 27, 2009, after an internal audit revealed discrepancies.

"We moved very rapidly when the recent audit revealed irregularities," said Maureen Lacroix, chair of the board, in May.

Plouffe was formally charged with fraud exceeding $5,000 and two counts of forging documents and tendering forged documents on May 21, 2009, after NCRF made a complaint to Greater Sudbury police on April 30.

When asked about the verdict in the case, Lacroix stated that she had no comment, as the case is still before the courts.

A pre-sentencing report has been ordered, and a date for sentencing is scheduled for next week.
