Fugitive tied up, assaulted woman

UPDATE: Shawn Granfield has been located and arrested.

Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service were called to the area of St. Raphael Street after being informed that Granfield had been spotted.

The attending officers were able to contain the area. The canine unit was called in to assist in locating the man. A canine track was initiated and Granfield was located and arrested without incident. 

A man is at large and wanted by police after bounding and assaulting a woman at a home in the Donovan area of the city on Saturday around 8 p.m.

Shawn Granfield, 34, who was known to the woman, tied her up during the assault and struck her with a blunt object. The victim managed to free herself once the suspect had fled the area. She was treated at the hospital and released.   

Granfield is facing charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, weapons dangerous, choking and uttering death threats.

He is described as a Caucasian male, six feet tall, 190 lbs, with medium-length, brown hair and brown eyes. He is believed to be in the Sudbury area.         

Members of the public are advised not to approach Granfield. His behaviour is unpredictable and he is considered armed and dangerous. If spotted, the public is urged to call the police as soon as possible at 675-9171, or Crime Stoppers at 675-TIPS(8477) or 1-800-222-TIPS.

Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to this man's arrest.
