Funerals held for two teens

The community continues to grieve the deaths of two teens killed in a two-car crash on Highway 17 four kilometres west of Markstay, Saturday, June 10.

The driver of a Mercury Topaz, Bruce Savard, 19, of Wahnapitae, and  his passenger Jodie Tremblay, 18, of Garson, were pronounced dead at the scene. Funerals were held Wednesday (June 14).

Two other passengers in the Mercury Topaz, one man and one woman (Brianna Branch), remain at St. Joseph's Health Centre and are in critical condition. A special mass was held for Brianna Branch at her school, St. Charles College, Wednesday.

A fourth passenger, a female, was treated and released from hospital.

The driver of the other car, a Pontiac Sunfire, Christie King, 18, of Petawawa, had to be airlifted to hospital in Ottawa and is in critical condition. Two female passengers are in hospital in Sudbury. They have non life-threatening injuries and have had surgery.
 
No other names or details are being released at this time as the police investigation continues.

The crash took place at 5:55 pm Saturday and closed the highway for eight hours.  According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the crash occurred when an eastbound car, the Mercury Topaz, carrying five people crossed the centre lane and struck head-on a westbound car, the Pontiac Sunfire, carrying three people.

Jodie Jacqueline Tremblay is survived by her parents Lorrie McGregor or Garson and Ronald Tremblay of St. Charles.

Bruce André Savard is survived by parents Robert and Colette Bérubé. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday at Notre Dame de La Merci Church in Coniston at 11 am.
