Gem Mart robbery foiled by concerned citizen

Just before 1 am this morning, uniform officers responded to a break and enter in progress at the Gem Mart on Kathleen St. in Sudbury. The original call came from a witness in the area that observed the four culprits in action.

Just before 1 am this morning, uniform officers responded to a break and enter in progress at the Gem Mart on Kathleen St. in Sudbury.  The original call came from a witness in the area that observed the four culprits in action.  Thanks to the assistance of area residents and the rapid response of the officers the area was quickly contained.  The parties responsible were located within minutes and three parties were apprehended after lengthy foot pursuits.  A fourth party escaped initial capture only to be tracked down by the Greater Sudbury Police Service K-9 unit.

All four parties responsible are young offenders and cannot be identified.

They face charges of break, enter and theft. Additional charges of possession of stolen property, possession of house breaking instruments, breach of probation and breach of recognizance of bail are also being laid against some of the accused.

All four are being held in custody and will be appearing in bail court.
