Golden Helmets motorcycle team performing this weekend

The Ontario Provincial Police Golden Helmets Motorcycle Precision Team will put on a performance July 12 at 6 p.m. on Highway 17 in Nairn Centre.

The Ontario Provincial Police Golden Helmets Motorcycle Precision Team will put on a performance July 12 at 6 p.m. on Highway 17 in Nairn Centre.

A Nairn Centre resident and vocalist, Emily Wyszynski, has been chosen to kick-off this performance and will be singing the National Anthem.

During this period of time, Highway 17 will be closed at Old Nairn Road and Smith Street.  A detour will be set up for eastbound and westbound passenger vehicles.  Unfortunately, commercial motor vehicles will be stopped in the “dead zone” between the detour and the performance area.

During their 30-35 minute performance, riders will demonstrate their riding skills and the manoeuvrability of the machines through a series of complex patterns. Following the demonstration, there will be an opportunity for the public and media to meet the team, ask questions and have photos taken with them.

The OPP team consists of officers, on regular patrol duties, from southern Ontario detachments and only two from Northern Ontario.  One of these officers is Cst. Dan Rocheleau, a member of the Sudbury OPP Highway Safety Division.

As well, beginning at 2 p.m., everyone is welcomed to participate in free family day activities hosted by community members.

The OPP will also be holding a bicycle rodeo and helmet fitting.  Children are reminded to bring their bicycles and helmets if they wish to participate.  Refreshments will also be available during the day. These activities will be held on the property of T-Bell Transport, off of Highway 17.
