Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service are confident that youngsters will have a safe Halloween if everyone follows these safety tips, said a news release:

• Drivers are always expected to drive carefully, but this day requires them to be extra vigilant - be aware of your surroundings and be mindful of the young people crossing the street. Give yourself more time to get to your destination and please slow down!

• Parents should be aware of the area their children will be going to if they are not being accompanied

• Parents should ensure that their children can see well and can be seen – have them wear make-up or face paint instead of a mask, and have them carry a flashlight

• Children should be reminded to cross the street at intersections only and to obey all traffic signals such as stop signs and traffic lights – and to not trick or treat alone

• Parents should remind their children not to eat any treats until they can be properly inspected
