A Val Caron hockey dad will be able to watch his son play hockey this coming season, but he'd better keep his mouth shut and leave one particular coach alone or he could get in more trouble.

Pierre Imbeau, 45, had an assault charge withdrawn against him Tuesday at the Sudbury courthouse after he agreed to enter into a peace bond.

Assistant Crown attorney Grace Kurke didn't reveal any details of why Greater Sudbury Police laid an assault charge against Imbeau Nov. 6, 2006.

But she did say the Crown did not wish to proceed with the assault charge and Imbeau will be allowed to watch his son play as long as he doesn't cause any further problems.

As part of the deal, Imbeau won't be able to have any communication directly or indirectly with the man who was coaching his son last season and that means he must not speak to him under any circumstances if the same man is coaching his son again this coming season, said Kurke.

Defence counsel Alex Toffoli told the court the Crown had originally asked Imbeau not be allowed to watch his son play at any arena this coming season, but agreed those conditions were too harsh after reviewing the case.

Imbeau has agreed to not communicate with his son's coach from last year and promises to behave himself at future contests where his son is playing hockey, said Toffoli.

Imbeau will also not be allowed to be inside any other hockey arena in the city unless his son is playing.

Imbeau will be allowed to go to the Sudbury Arena if he wants to take in a Sudbury Wolves game, said Kurke.
